| 1:1 CV axle questions
SO, I am looking to build a IRS buggy, something with a motor off of a GSX-750R. I have been researching these buggies for a little while. Alot of builders are using 930 CV axles(size 15, or 108mm other names for them). Now here is my question. What size axles are say GM cars, or light trucks? I am not having luck finding those specs on google. I would like to use those, just because i can run to my local part store and get them. |

With 930s on a 750 you shouldn't need replacements very often. Size isn't the only consideration. Working angle, mounting method, total plunge, and material should all be factors in your decision.

Well.. what i was getting at is the 930's are available on these buggy part sites, and they arent cheap. What I was looking to find out is what size CV are most passenger cars? are they 930? or smaller?

| Re: 1:1 CV axle questions It depends on what car. Every car has a different cv joint. Some are big, some are small. Some have different bolt on flanges. Some have all different spined inputs. Some can handle lots of plunge, some have zero plunge. You can buy Porsche CVs if you don't want to buy from empi, etc.

Not sure on the size exactly but if I was in your position I'd be looking for a rear diff from a supra. If you get one that was equipped with a 7mgte engine it will accept gears from an 8" toyota truck so you have the whole array of ratio's available from 3.43 to 5.71 and have a factory limited slip. You can also mix and match cv axles to get the width you want. From mini truck to tundra with the supra in between it is very adaptable and strong.

Just for the record you understand that 930 CVs are just cv joints from a Porsche 930 aka 911 turbo, right?

So are you looking for a complete assembly you can bolt in (axels, diff, knuckles)? Like are you wanting to use the complete system out of an S10? Something to look at, might not be as easy to find as Chevy parts (easier than the buggy parts), but Nissan Armadas are IFS/IRS. Being basically a full size truck (Titan SUV) the parts are more beefy than mini-truck or car driveline parts.

I want to use a bolt on Wheel hub assembly, Make my own uprights( knuckles). For the rear, I want an axle that has a bolt on flange and a splined end. Now that you mensioned S10.. I remember my old s10 blazer 4wd had a setup like what I am looking for.
