Default Need some RC gift options - cheap

My mom was showing off my clod and telling someone she works with how I'm an addict with these things and so they showed her son. He apparently feel in love with it and wants one. From what I've been told, him and his dad have gotten a few from various stores but they are not lasting very long. These are like walmart radio shack RCs, not hobbystore.
Know that you know the story, they want me to build one for them. My mom, not knowing how bad the addiction is, told them that my clod cost about $100 So that is the price range they are thinking..haha yeah right.
I'm shooting for about $200 range. So far I think the Goliath rock crawler looks like the best, but I have no idea how good it is and what not. I was also thinking about a stock TLT because that is $80 plus electronics. I just don't know if a stock tlt is worth a crap or not. But atleast a stock TLT would give them the ability to upgrade and build a crawler as time goes on.

Anyway, give me some options and feed back on what you think a good budget RC would be. Mainly for playing around in the backyard on rocks and what not, not a comp rig.

I mentioned something in the $300 range and I think that about knocked them over. Some people don't realize the difference between radioshack crap and hobby crap...there is a difference :-P
It might be a stock tlt with maybe some better tires or something. I might play with the suspension some. Either that or I suggested if they're going to be cheap, then get a nylint.

you may have allready told her this, but the truck she buys thats hobby grade is not a throw away, when somthing breaks it is repairable. as well it can also grow with him as far as upgrades and hop-ups, or with a chassis kit, completely redoable. i would also say that if she's buying it as a gift, i'd offer help to build it, then he knows how to fix it and work on it. i bought a couple of rtr rustlers for my nephews and when somthing breaks or needs adjustment theyr lost

NO Goliath! With out mods to the gearing it's way to fast out of the box for crawling. Mine has a GD600 and a 55 turn lathe and I think it is still to fast for crawling.
