The slop between this unit and almost every axle shaft I've tried in it is unreal, Almost as bad if not worse than the Hot Racing spool.

For most this wont be an issue, however, If doing the XR mod, You need as much meat inside the spool as possible as you are grinding away at the XR axle shaft to allow it to work... The Holme Hobbies spool is BY FAR the tightest as far as slop is concerned, ALMOST to a fault, I've had to tap in my fair share of axle shafts to HH spools. .. To some ( xr mod guys ) This is what you want..

One more thing to note, These are of lower quality steel than HH uses..

All things said, Its a great budget option locker. For the price, I'd argue the best..

Wow that's surprising. I would think a "Vanquish" owned company would make a badass product.

Really the last line of my post should say it all tho, Its a budget option, It fills that roll very well, Better than any other option..

Just if you are planning to do an XR mod down the road, One might reconsider putting these lockers in is all

The Incision line is meant to be more budget friendly. Cheaper means sacrifices must be made.

Holmes and harley said the problem isn't really in the manufacturing, the problem is that the axial tolerances vary quite a bit.

From what I can tell the bore is broached by the same tool they made the diff lockers with. Cheaper (far cheaper) to broach a slot than to mill it, and cheaper to use an existing tool than to let that sucker sit idle. The largest cost of making my spools is milling the slot.

The tolerances do vary quite a bit for the ring and pinion, I've got some where only three holes line up. Stock plastic locker doesn't care about that. Axle shafts are pretty on the money from batch to batch though.

Yall might be interested in our new prices on lockers. I made them less expensive to be competitive, although I probably didn't need to do that based on the difference in features.

I hope they didn't use the same broach as the 2 piece design lockers. The shaft will damned near spin 360 unless the grub screws are tight.

It seems to be the same tool. I should probably look into broaching mine as well, but it would be a pain to program the machine for it.

This doesn't make sense to me. If you're making your own tangs by grinding down the inner axle it shouldn't matter what the tolerances on the spool are because you're grinding the axle to mate with the spool.

I think the diameter of the shafts where they are grinding flats is less than 5mm, so it doesn't have much to hold against rotation.

Yup. You catch just a little bit of the fat end and the rest is a smaller diameter. You really want a tight fit for a long life.

Not knocking VP, but it looks these are coming in at $18.99, and it looks like Locked Up just dropped their FI spools to the same price. I've been hammering the FI spools for a couple years on a various rigs and never had an issue, and more importantly there is no slop between the locker and axle shafts. Matter of fact all my axles required a bit of massaging then tapping to seat them, no worries on slipping or getting hogged out over time.
