Default EDC'ers: What Distance Do You Practice At?

I normally train at 30'ish feet or less but recently was turned on to training at farther distances.

Today I focused on the max my local range goes to, 25yrds. It was quite humbling. I do plan on making this more regular from now on. I agree with the phrase, "if you can shoot on target at longer distances it's almost like cheating when shooting at closer distances." That makes good sense to me.

With the hopes of not getting laughed off the interwebz I'm posting my maybe 2nd-3rd time shooting this distance, and it's been a while.

Todays best. Shooting consecutively maybe 1-2 seconds between shots. Starting center mass working my way up towards the head.

So, what distances do you normally practice at with your hand gun?

I usually go straight for 15 and shot a few clips and move it out to 25. I use my ruger sr40c.

This thread reminds me I need some range time.

Focus on a smooth trigger pull, and work that reset. Not bad at all for only shooting that distance a few times with a carry gun.

yeah. looks like he is left handed. pulling trigger with left index finger with a somewhat steady pull. you can see if he is aiming center mass the rounds are slightly off center to the left. if he was right handed the round would be going to the right.

I myself need to go back to the range. its been over 3 months..

Right handed.

I work on the basics constantly even though I've been shooting 100-200rds at least once a week for a few months now. Just never really stepped out much beyond 25-30ft.

Also around 20 - 30 foot, at the local indoor range. The closest outdoor range is around a 20 min. drive, but it's much less restrictive, I recently got my membership and it's a different ball game, much more fun. The pistol range is fixed at 15 yrds. and the rifle range has 50 or 100 yard distances. I need to sign up for some of their training classes.

When I got with my brother in law, we shoot at 25, then 15. He's LEO and uses his Glock22 in .40, and I use a 9mm Glock19. Shooting father than closer definitely helps.

7-20 yards.

We go in tandem and allow the non shooter to pick the distance at random.

My little SR9c and I get along pretty well.

I start at 10 steps, then work my way out to 25yards from target to finish off. Usually no less than 100rds per visit.

With My CC G43 and G19

Most CC situations will be less than 20yrds...More like 10ft+/-

Also practice shooting one handed, never know if you'll be down a hand or arm.
Strong and weak arm.

Im right handed..shooting left handed was very odd and took some getting used to.

Me and sherry will be starting our CC practice drills as a couple.
Meaning her and I practicing as if we were both in that situation.

Train hard,fight easy.

*also good idea to keep a GSW med kit on standby. Better to have it and not need it,than need it and not have it.*

what part of your finger is on the trigger? finger placement decides weather or not your weapon pulls to the right or left.

im just wondering cause the shots are left of center. im right handed but I shoot with my left. its more comfortable for me. even though my right hand is stronger.

I use a lot of the same drills I do for IDPA shooting. Lot of the normal stuff like dry fire drills, drawing drills at home. At the range I do forced reload drills. Sitting, standing, moving, single hand and week hand. All from different ranges from arms reach to 35 yards.

No. The last pad, the one with the nail above it.

It's how I've been shooting since I was a kid and from what I know, is pretty standard practice.

good diagrams to bring up. ive never had problems shooting center mass. its just the target has to be a bit farther for me to see a bit more clearly.

I practice at 10ft, 15ft and lastly 20 ft with my S&W BG .380. Full clip at each distance. My thoughts behind it are this, most altercations are going to take place within 20ft. If it's outside of 20ft then I have options to get myself or my family out of harms way, but if not I can still close in if needed to stop the threat. I try to look at it from a court room situation as if I have a jury trying to convict me of "hunting down the threat" rather than trying to defend my family. It's all about removing yourself from harms way rather than taking down a target at any distance when it comes to a CC situation IMHO. If the threat is further out than that, my main objective is to gather my family, find cover and wait for the threat to advance in my direction rather than trying to close in and hunt him down. In the latter option there, I feel that nearly any jury could possibly convict me of being "Rambo minded" and trying to pursue the shooter instead of defending myself/family from the shooter. In other words, I don't want to go to prison for hunting some guy down in Walmart or firing a weapon from 30+ft away and possibly hitting a innocent person.

While most of us will thankfully never have worry about it, just thought I'd bring up that center mass might not be good enough in certain situations.
