Honestly what would help is if people realized that Badger makes money from Google, and posting like we're in a high school locker room doesn't help. Everyone here should know what is and isn't acceptable.

What was acceptable 5 years ago is not acceptable today due to ad sales. 5 years ago the administration gave enough of a damn to actually show up and participate now it is apparent they don't care enough to do more than let the ad sales pay for the place while they do whatever.

Not necessary for the public to do, since its impractical to expect from them. Thats the job a software can do very well.

I don't know about the inner workings of Vbulletin, but I guess there should be possibility for some exceptions. A thread can be given special attention....but then its going to consume resourses.

If google got so pissed off at the content of the thread and forced Badger to remove it, then why can I find every kind of disgusting porn, extreme violence, racism, and pretty much every other vulgar thing in existence in their search engine without even really trying?

I would assume those sites aren't using Adsense for revenue.

Google isn't policing the internet but if you want to play with their money, you play by their rules.

I need to apologize to management, I got a straight forward IM that explained to me why the original thread was removed, the reason was exactly for the reasons posted in this thread. I had no prior knowledge of the reasons, I just assumed it was the "F" in the thread title, not the actual content. My idea for a new thread was made without knowing why the original thread was removed, it wasn't done to be a pain in anyone's side or to stir the waters anymore than they already are.

I was trying to be helpful but my good intentions didn't address the actual problem, which is something way beyond anything I could ever have any control over. I'd say that this thread should be kept view-able so that others can at least understand why one of our most popular threads was taken away. I honestly had no idea why it went away, but now I understand.

Search engine is one thing, Adsense is a other separate program.

Google runs both, but does not filter what is SEARCHED on the search engine. Well, except what has been forced on them to filter, torrents and what not. Can thank the DMCA for that one.

Adsense is the ad system that feeds banner ads you see on sites. This system people pay Google to be in, and Google then in turn pays a portion of that to a site running the ads for views/click through's. Similar to affiliate links to Amazon you see pimped in YouTube videos. Those guys get a cut of of what you buy via that link.

Here recently Google has taken it up a notch and demonetizing some YouTube channels that don't fit this structure as well.

Double standard from Google. They get all uppity about not filtering searches, but you will not find gun stuff in the Google Shopping, and they monitor Adsense like a hawk to fit what they have deemed good.

Google will crawl the WHOLE site, if it finds what it doesn't like in the domain it throws a fit.

My star is 60% ad repellent 40% to keep the site alive for tech. I pretty much have a star in spite of the admins lack of care about the site these days.

im admin on another rc messageboard that doesnt use adsense, doesnt require members to pay for perks, and out of the goodness of peoples hearts they donate enough to keep the lights on.

as a matter of fact i donate more there each year than a vendor does here.

edit - looks like im wrong, just went there and god damnit theres a stupid adsense header. dunno if i havent been paying attention or what...
