| Watch your back!
This one kinda freaked me out because this is the company I worked for for a year and a half! Two people (Husband and Wife) were working in a small ditch laying low volt sprinkler system wiring when another worker that had NO buisness in a backhoe got in, started it up, DIDN'T raise the machine off the ground, DIDN'T set the parking brake and then swung the seat around to face the rear and grabbed a hand full of throttle.... and then the machine took off going forward while he faced the back! The husband and wife where pronounced DOS.:-( I talked to my buddy who still works there and he said the two were nearly cut in two by the front bucket! I work around these machines every day for the last two years and have seen some stupid things but nothing like this. Here is a link to the local news story. PAY ATTENTION AT WORK! These people never saw it coming! http://www.9news.com/news/local/arti...?storyid=73069 |

Yeah, me too. I work at the place that sold that machine. My boss was not too happy. The 420D has a transmission lockout when the park brake is applied and when you dig with a "hoe" you ALWAYS lift all four tires off the ground and put the cutting edge of the bucket down! This should not have happened if the person had been properly trained!

Doesn't your employer know it is illegal for anyone under 18 to operate dangerous equipment! When I was 16 or 17 I worked at Target and I wasn't even allowed to use the cardboard bailer!

Man that sucks to here, I used to run heavy equiptment all the time, hoes, loaders, skids, dozers, etc......I have worked with people trusting me with their lifes and vice versa. I was never trained to lift a hoe when trenching but none the less, sounds like stupidity and someone had to pay the price with their lifes. My thoughts go out to their family and friends. |

It is a lot different when I am operating a machine at work.... flat ground, no people in the yard, no big holes to fall into... When I worked in the field I had them move any machine I was working on to an area away from the action, if a machine would not move under its own power we would drag it out. There was no way I was gonna lie under a 80k lbs machine while they drove around me with buckets of dirt/ concrete and rocks! It just sucks that someone had to learn his lesson in such a horrible way! If that was me I would never be able to work again!! Speaking of work.... Off I go, FRIDAY!!! WHOO HOOO! |

well some can but most shouldnt be operating equipment like that yes many can hit the gas and steer but not many people can act fast under pressure like the guy who killed 2 people if he would have been experienced and it was rolling backward he prolly could have know to hit the brake or somthing......driving stuff around the farm is one thing operating somthing u shouldnt is another thing | |
