Default 2.2 class/ Driveshaft driven only!

I was curious what other members think about the 2.2 class being driveshaft driven only? Most 1:1 crawlers have a transmission, transfercase and are driveshaft driven. My thoughts were that the 2.2 class was to be similar to Joe Smoes 1:1 crawler, not Bill Gates rear steer, portal axle, hovering machine with $5000 worth of upgrades. A class that a novice can get into and compete without selling his wife on Colfax for the weekend.(by the way, mine has an opening this Sat @ 8:00p)

Just curious!

Can she do 8:15?

It's still $3.00 for the half and half right?

How exactly does making it shaft driven axles only do anything to make it a cheap entry level class?

My thoughts were that portals and clod axles were more expensive to set up but I could be wrong. IMO the 2.2 class should be more scale to a daily driver 4x4 or 1:1's, tranny, transfercase, driveshaft driven etc. I think your right though, is there such a thing as cheap entry level?

Clod axles with Portals are very wide. And if you wanted to do an expensive shafty just do TXT axles with portals.

Let everyone try whatever they want as long as it meets the regulations. A TLT axle can get prety pricey too;
- $129 Delrin Case
- $50 CVD
- $30ish spool
- $8 bearings
- $10 pinion

So you are at $227 for one axle. Likely you will want two of those (lol) and tires and a chassis and a transmission.

It is just as expensive to build a 2.2 clod as a 2.2 tlt. (deepending on how you power it)

Stewie...

If you want something more "scale" build a scale truck and get ready for the scale comps, I think some plans are on the burner for this in our area. It should be very fun, and very competitive

I see no advantage to limiting the class to drive shaft only rigs. Yes, the class does preserve some of the scale looks, but that is not enough reason to outlaw motor/axle assemblies IMO.

Most? What 1:1 comps do you attend? One where the Mars Rover is competing?

I like the sound of spending $5000 on a Bill Gates machine, and having it quit on me right when it matters the most.

I also like the sound of this Colfax place.

You need to get one of Electrohacker's $35 speed controls, then. That thing was poopin' out every five minutes up at Nelson

Alright, I'll combine the 2nd & 3rd answers since they are pretty much the same thing, and the tally so far is 15 for yes - 20 for shove it in my pie hole!
