| Picture of an actual B-17 Betty
I have been searching and I think I found a picture of an actual B-17 Betty. This one was converted to have a machine gun turret on the back. The B-17 Betty was obviousely a general purpose truck for the military. I also heard they had tow truck versions of it also but I couldn't find a picture. |

That thing looks tough as hell! Nothing beats the trucks and Jeeps from WWII!

I thought the B-17 Betty was just an old Dodge Power Wagon? I dont think Ive heard of any trucks called B-17, all I come up with in search is the B-17 Bombers. |

B-17 is a fake name by Axial. Thats why you keep getting Bombers, be cause the "B" classification in the military is reserved as Bomber class planes only. The Actual Truck this is based off is a Dodge Power Wagon or the Military equivalent known as the WDX. Also come of the WC Series appear to be similar in design, let it be known that it does look like Axial has changed some things to get around the costly licensing. http://www.texaspowerwagon.com/1947_wdx.htm |

It should have been name Sgt. Rock Once my Scorpion shows up my Elvis may get promoted to Sergeant . He'll probably lose his sergeant stripes when he gets thrown in the brig for Disorderly Conduct, Drunk on Station, Reckless Endangerment, Illegal Firearms, ect... |

Yea, the power wagons and WDX's are pretty sweet. My wife's cousin has two or three, including one that's a "tow truck" edition - it's actually a 1.5 ton crane mounted in the bed, rather than a "propper" tow truck, although it works that way as well. Next time I'm out at his place (thanksgiving maybe?) I'll see if I can get some pictures for yall.

Polished aluminum... Only have to polish it so often... Stays nice and shiny. My grandad was crewchief on the B-17 "Rosies Riveters" and called the largest NCO in the division.

Speaking from experience, the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is a hell of an aircraft. I got to pilot the EAA's Aluminum Overcast in 1998 and 2006. My grandpa served with them during WWII, and in 2006 I took him up in the B-17 and he got to see his grandson fly the aircraft that he did over 60 yrs ago. binaryterror is correct, the "B" is designation for bomber. I showed a pic of the Axial B-17 body to my grandpa and he said it's nothing more than a Dodge Power Wagon (aka WDX). He said they were heavily used in the states. He said they didn't use them over seas because they were expensive and hard to transport compared the Willy's JEEP! The sticker that comes with the body is to resemble "nose art" that bombers of that era painted on the noses of the aircraft. The first pic with the E-5 turret was used to train gunners for the B-17 and B-24 bombers. My grandpa said they also used the truck to train "waist gunners". He said they would drive down a bumpy dirt road and have the trainee shoot clay pigeons with a shotgun while standing up un-assisted in the bed of the WDX.

It looks like this might be an old thread but I couldnt help myself. The B-17 Betty body is pretty cool....I had one on my T-maxx I think you guys nailed it about the license issue. I have a 1:1 Power Wagon and a WW2 Dodge WC12. It looks like they combined these with an M37 Dodge to get the Betty. I like all of them. |
