| Just curious, but would this work to prevent a nitro crawler from freewheeling?
Ok, I just thought of this idea that could be used to make a nitro crawler that wouldnt free-wheel. And btw, I have no intentions of trying this, just thought it might work... Ok what if near the spur gear, you had a little arm with a spring, and the end of this arm, could fit into the teeth of the spur gear. And when the spur gear would spin one way, the arm would just bounce off of the teeth, but when it went the other way, the spring would be able to push this arm back into the teeth, thus not allowing the gear to spin the other way. And when you needed reverse, have a small servo to pull this arm out of the spur gear, and at the same time pulling a linkage to put the crawler in reverse. Does anybody think this is crazy enough to work? Post your thought please. And btw, as I said before, I have not plans of actually doing this, let alone even building a nitro crawler. Then why think about it? Why not just use a ratchet and a servo to reverse it? |

too complicated. you could just adjust the disk brake to engage when your not in the throttle. but a creative idea

The easiest way possible to prevent rollback on a nitro truck is to add 1/4" fiber washers on the axles stubs before the wheel pin. The hub smashes against the fiber washer and causes a resistance. Problem solved. |

Or even a manual brake, of all the problems facing a nitro powered crawler, rollback is the smallest.

oh well. It would be cool though. I think it would probably work. Just a thought.

Bally figured out the whole "nitro free-wheeling problem" about 40 years ago. Just seemed like the weight gain wasn't worth it.

The best way I have found to prevent the rollback is replace the engine with an electric motor and use a ESC that has drag brake, easy fix!:-P
