| Rebuilding my pc.
well i decided to rebuild my pc. I plan on getting a bigger hard drive mine now is only 20 gig. I also plan on getting more ram. i'm running 128 mb now. I also have plans for a custom clear case and neons. And a new on/off switch. I have ~$250. to spend. My question is what size/brand hard drive do you guys like/run, And how much ram I should run or what I should shoot for. The case, neons, and switch will be "custom" so all I really would like to buy is a new hard drive and more ram. I will mostly use the pc for the internet. If there is anything else i should think about upgrading while im at it then speak up, I want to build a decent pc but i don't want to spend my "crawler money" on stuff that won't be worth it. Any help or opinions will be awesome. Thanks -Mike Last edited by Mikekx65; 09-29-2007 at 04:13 PM. |

Hit the widows key and pause break at the same time and it should tell you the processor.

With that old of a machine, you are probably better off to start off from scratch. Your mobo is outdated, your CPU is outdated, EVERYTHING is outdated. It would be like sticking $250 into a Nylint......................oh wait. Personally, I would look at a new barebones kit from tigerdirect or newegg. For $300-400, you won't end up with top of the line, but you will end up with 100x the computer you have now. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...2-2848%20A Last edited by Robb; 09-29-2007 at 06:30 PM. |

For about $300 you can build a failry decent PC on newegg.com... of you can spend ~$400 at Dell for a new PC with monitor and a warranty and not have to deal with building it.

I have to X2 on everything Robb said. If the PC is that old, your $250 is going to be best spent towards a new machine. A bigger drive isn't going to improve anything, and with a MoBo and processor that old, more RAM isn't going to make a huge difference with modern programs. Besides, it may only be rated for up to 512.

Or the long way, Control Panel, and System. Although Win + P/B worked on my PC.
