Rod Hadfield is the icon of rodding here, well, in the last 20-25 years. Done some salt lake speed stuff, too. Nice bloke, too.

An article I read about that Ford had some interesting things to say. For one, when the blower was added, it sucked soooo much air that it was freezing the carbs.... they ran some coolant lines to the intake to WARM it up

I like airplane engines. I had a jones one time to put a 400cid 4cylinder lycoming in a car, but when the max rpm is 2500ish, you need some serious gearing going on. The other downside, is that particular engine I was looking at would only run 100 octane low lead avgas. It was "expensive" even back then - think regular $.69 a gallon, 100LL was $2.30 a gallon. But airplane engines....they just sound so damn cool.
