| To winch,or not to winch? That is the question??
Getting into scaler crawling. I have an axial Wraith and im looking to install a winch. There seems to be a couple different ones on the market that look cool, but do they work well? I found this site RC Rock Crawling - The Ultimate Crawler Store Winch & Hook but not sure of their track record. Anyone have any imput on a good winch, that i dont have to marry????

Those winches are not very good. There are only 1 or 2 winches on the market that work effectively more then once. You will have to pay for them though. One is the Quicksand winch, yeah its really expensive, however it will be the last winch you ever buy. Your best bet is to get a dummy winch and make a servo into a working winch, that is going to be your cheapest and strongest bet. Hard part there is finding a place under the hood to hide it. |

I personally haven't had a problem with the rc4wd winches, they pick up my 13lbs. Rig from a dead lift, just need to use a snatch block. The quicksand winch is pretty much the ultimate rc winch x2 on what turtle said. You may want to consider a metal bumper because if you do any hardcore winching it will rip off any plastic mounted bumper. |

Or you can get creative with it...in true crawler fashion.... here is what i did..its a winch converted servo...their is a ton of threads on it....use the search button .... i used a pc of flat plate al with a few cuts and bends...pretty simple...all my electronics are in the back and the battery between the cab and hood brace |

You cannot go wrong with a servo winch. Anything less than the high dollar units will not last (I am currently using a cheap one on my honcho for a dummy) but the servos take a beating. |
