Default Rock Racing Section?

Do you think there should be a section for rock racers?

Things to consider:

Pros:
-Might help grow this area of our hobby
-Easily access knowledge about rock racers
-Manufacturers might start supporting it with parts or even rigs

Cons:
-Some may just build a crawler with a fast motor and call it a racer
-Rock racers can already go in General or Scale section
-Will add more space and cause more work for our mods

I like that idea I think the only prob is there isn't a company making a "Rock Racer" right now. I have 3 rock racers. Wasn't someone making a Campbell chassis to be sold? Was it RC4WD or TCS? Anywho, you can always post them up in general crawling

Edit....I guess if you count the Axial there is one....

just a question though ...... what makes a rock crawler a rock racer? how would you distinguish a rock racer from a rock crawler?

just my 2cents, and not trying to pee on ideas, but i think it would just crowd the site and/or bring on more admin/mod work.

I like the idea too, there are some sweet rock racing type rigs being build and it seems like there are more and more "mini KOH" type event's poping up.

To me a rock racer is a rig that can do both crawling, and speed, IE: a Cambell buggy with a fast motor and suspension that can handle jumps, washboards, etc.

I also kinda prefer the rock racer's that look somewhat scale, not full on interior and camping gear type scale, but proportions a and body/chassis that resemple something you would seen running in a XRRA or KOH type race.

Harley's rig is a good example:

yeah thats what i mean, to 'you' a rock racer is a certain way but what would really differentiate a rock crawler from a racer? a fast motor?

you get 1 guy that buys an AX10 then throws a 7T in it does that make it really a rock racer? but then you got him posting in the racing area when in reality the only thing different from his and a RTC AX10 is the motor.

just seems like more navigating in an area that really wouldnt be different then current Vendor specific areas. If you built a scale Rock Racer why wouldnt you post it in the scale area we have already? Would you put a scaled version of Fred Williams Fun Buggy in the Scale area or the Rock Racing area?

Very true, and some good points

I guess it is kinda hard to define... I run into that in the scale sections once in a while when someone posts up a truck that in my eye's isn't a scaler....

Yeah but it's an ax10, wouldn't they have to come out with some thing that has rock racer in the title.

Something like the rrx10. same axles and tranny, but change everything else.:-P

could always have a rock racer section in the scale area since most rock racers are scale versions. I know my club is just starting to talk about adding them to our "schedule" and it would be nice to have 1 place you can go for research.

I was thinking that if we had a rock racing section there would be some benifits like companies making rock racing rigs or parts for them. I think there would be more rock races and more rock racing rigs, because we do have a lot of people that are getting into rock crawling everyday and some people are speed demons and are worried if going slow is going to be fun (i was before i started) so instead of making the plunge and getting into crawling, rock racing might make the conversion from going from fast to slow easier. Also i think right now rock racing is like a new frontier with people building rigs from pieces of other rc cars and coming up with ideas that make there rigs good at going fast and slow. Of course though you will have people that will just throw a fast motor in there crawler, just like how you have people who put a scale looking body on there crawler and call it a scaler, every section has stuff like that. The point is that having a section will help build knowledge of rock racers and might boost an area of our hobby.

Alright i updated the thread so it has a pole so we can see how many people really want it, and how many people think we can go with out it. I also edited the first post so it is less biased and more of asking for an opinion.

my only worry about a rock racing section is how strict it will be.. is it only rock racing? or could there be mud drags, sand drags, or other forms of racing to. we are running a team racing trail series which is pretty fun..

I am not talking about stadium or buggy stuff. plenty of sights out there that cater to that stuff..

I think it should be strict to rock racing. The tuff truck style trucks would be aloud but usually those are scalers and stay in the scale section. I think it would be strict to that the rig has to be able to crawl and race. Adding the other sand drags and stuff like that would just open a new can of worms and turn this forum into an "Everything" forum not a crawler forum, so i think the other stuff should still just go into the non crawler section.
