Talking Inaugural monthly SBRCCA SoCal comp/gtg !

It was a success!

Though not a turn-out that could be boasted about :(

The course was immaculately laid out thanks to the efforts of the SBRCCA crew. Specifically big props go to Rex and Jeff for helping to supply rocks and equipment to move them, and to LEVI for taking care of ALL the maintenance, planning, and layout efforts.

Here is a view from the starting area of the field

and a view from the top

the field was layed out in five different courses (the pink and red were descents, and courses 1, 3, & 5 were ascents)

one of the highlights was course 3, the "slickrock" course.. all of the rocks were polished smooth round rocks that were coated in a clear slippery substance to simulate a wet ascent.
definitely a special challenge with the first gate having a sheer drop off that had no possibility of crawling down.. was all about the timing of your falling rig and punching it to keep yourself upright

course 1 gave many people a really hard time.. specifically the 1st and 4th gates.. but the real challenge was the nearly untouched 5th course that had an incredible gulley that ate everything up. It's hard to see but the area in yellow is a good 1.5' under the area in blue and the area in green is easily 2' higher than that.

a bonus obstacle was added (after much discussion on man-made obstacles on course) that a few people tried but nobody could conquer.. the object was to keep the teeter-totter balanced the longest.. after hours at it our record is only about 2 seconds..haha (with a balance point only about an 1/8" wide I invite ANYONE to come break that.. we'd seriously LOVE to see it)
the silicone balls were added originally as colorful helpers for tough obstacles but proved to make things all the harder as they are MUCH more inviting than they turn out to be

and an obligatory shot of the man Levi's rig posing for the manufacturers

As was said, we are aiming at having this be a monthly meeting, first Saturday of the month and we are hoping to pull more drivers as we know there are more local enthusiasts and true hardcore crawlers who make the trek out from farther reaches.

We run a modified set of rules that are generally more relaxed, and a full pdf of the rules and their variation from the NAT specs will be available shortly on here or the website. We are mostly all running 2.2 classes (box stock, modified and open) but have a few supers skirting the edges and we are planning on adding another area at least this size dedicated to the larger rigs. At this point though, it is basically bring it and run it.. if some kid wants to try and bomb the course downhill with an old rc10 buggy we won't stop you.. in fact you'll probably get pictures and cheers! just bring it..

Thanks gang for a great day and cannot wait until next month

Default yes and no

Thanks for the comment. The track is located in Santa Barbara and you can get directions at the club's website ( www.sbrcca.org )

Tentative schedule is comps every month on the first Saturday of the month.
Open practice from 7:30 to 10:30
10:30 driver's meeting
11:00 sign ups end
11:00 to 12:00 we set the courses and decide running order (as well as break for food if needed)
12:00 is the gun for the first crawlers.
We had set it up for 5 min. per course but that may change before next month, especially for the boxstock class. ;) Look for an updated set of rules as well as a new rock crawling section (hopefully) on the website in the weeks to follow.

Other than that it is a basically a membership track but I've been told that it is open to any crawlers to use the rock course free of charge anytime that the maintenance crew or club members are around and have the gates open.

If you are in our area, bring your rig by. If you plan on being in our area, then pm me and we can swap phone numbers so I can meet you out there and make sure it is open for you to check out.
