801rcc 2014 Ultra4 R/C, Event #6 "Dusted Desert 600"

It doesn't matter who you are. The massive 4pole presence and menacing look of an Ultra4 rig awakens something primal when you grip the wheel of your radio. That's because Ultra4 rigs are no mere crawler. Their 3000+ kv call of the wild, built to tear across desert wastes and assault rock filled ravines, just like their 1:1 counter parts. So grab your gear, grab some lunch, and grab the family and come spend the day with you friends and 801rcc in the desert on the rocks.

Great day on the rocks.
Weather was a little on the hot side, but luckily a few people brought their easy-ups, so you could avoid the sun when possible.

The course was a tough one, as some would expect from Lone Rock. The course was loaded with some pretty challenging obstacles that tested each drivers ability in a veriety of different situations. From the sound of it everyone really enjoyed the course and only a few drivers had to carry a broken back down to the pits. The turn out was good with a few new faces mixed into an already great group of drivers. Talking to the new guys, it sounds like everyone made them feel very welcome.

The racing was pretty good and fairly tight for the first 150 gates. I led form the grid with the other Trophy drivers in pursuit. Tuner went down on the first jump with a wire coming loose. After fighting some repairs he was able to get out on course and finish even though he was well behind the other drivers. A few navigational errors had Jrad and Wheels just a few gates behind me. But after completing my first lap I had stretched out decent lead. I kept my pace up on lap two, and as I started my third and final lap I saw Wheels on the side of the trail in mid repair. I took a moment to look around, with Jrad a good ways back I was able to relax a bit and ran my last lap without incident.

After a good break a few of us pulled out the "Stock" rigs and hit the trail for some extra fun. Surprisingly the "Stock" rigs were quite capable. I was able to make all but 2 gates through the course. It was a work out for my Deadbolt but a ton of fun to navigate the tough course with a very basic rig. I look forward to running my "stock" rig again next month.

A huge thanks to everyone that came out to support 801rcc and enjoy a fun day on the rocks with friends and family.
Hope to see everyone next month on the 19th at Bald mtn. for some great driving and for those that can swing it, some good times around the camp fire.
