Default motor upgrade for 7.2v?

stock setup has too much wheel speed, and no torque (or low end sensitivity, probly the esc)
im wanting to convert to 7.2V and a new esc.
but when doing the single battery jumper mod on the stock setup, it has no power.
recomended motor upgrades other than puller 454s? (looking for brushed, and use with 7.2v NiMh)

the problem with the 7.2 it doesnt have the discharge rate that the a 2 cell lipo has. i run a modified cc with a fxr esc and a 2cell, 5000mah lipo. i can run it for a long time.
