| CC Rockbuggy teaser pics
Bought a used ARTR CC 4mo ago. Tried the BMV torsion chassis thing, and to make it as small as possible to be an inside winter crawler. Goofed the chassis (torsion rods too high from axle center), and sense built a shafty 1.9, 1:18 Mog to be the inside toy. The CC got shelved until now. This will be a slower build (Kyosho Blizzard on the way, wife and kids time). Did not have large enough Delrin pcs, so for now it is HDPE, but all cross section pcs will be Delrin. So 3mm screws will pass through the side plates and thread into Delrin (HDPE strips easily). I got a Sherline hobby grade vertical mill on permanent loan. Wow is it fun. Prob start with 3/4 droop. Little more done. Please ignore the spikes. They were for couch climbing. Delrin riser blocks either side of front servo support the top black polycarb plate that holds the 3 link, and supports the skid. These blocks extend down behind the axle as well to give lower link and shock mounting points. Built with what I had, including stock CC links and link balls. Blue polycarb side windows, perf'd alum top. Old Redcat Volcano shocks I had laying around. Internal hardware springs above and below piston give it 3/4 droop. |

Thx! This was my first real machining, and first project with the mill. Learned some patience and more. I have always hand drilled and dremeled things until now. I think the rear axle will roll with stock links for now and add more later. Hard to see in these pics, but the front riser/link blocks have two curved, vertical grooves to hold two 2/3a cells close to each front wheel. Hope to get some more done this weekend. |

The pc I fabbed to hold the rear upper links also is a battery tray to hold 3-4, 2/3a cells end to end (tube). It anchors directly to the existing 3 mount tabs on the top of the axle case. Rear steering lock link is anchored to this now. I clocked the rear axle about 10 deg. This gets the motor and the stupid screw tab on the front of the gearcase a little higher then the lower links. Stock links for now. http:// |

Nice work, can't tell its your first machining. Looks like everything came together fine. It will definitely be a one of a kind. |

Thx doubletrouble! The milling was done on traced patterns and some holes hand drilled so some things are off a bit. I got the spread out battery packs soldered last night. Trip to LHS today to get some more Deans. The chassis is made to surround a 2x3 Rat-shack project box that has my dual dig switches in it. The switches were soldered by me a while ago and I want to cleam them up a bit. The limited articulation comes from the shocks being outboard (left-right and fore-aft) so far. If I want the on the outside of the chassis rails like this, might need to go with longer shocks, and mount them higher up on the chassis. Will change the look a lot though. I'm run a BMV torsion chassis on my 2.2 truck, so I'm used to driving with less articulation, so I'll start with it as is. Tires baked off the wheels funny. Two came out fine, two had a side grow in diameter and stay large?? You can see it in the second to last pic of the rear axle, left tire. |

5&7 yr old brothers were bothering her, so she came in the workshop to help finish my CC. Last edited by sweli; 04-20-2009 at 09:11 PM. |

Looks like it should perform well. I love seeing all the different directions these little trucks are going.

| Getting Warmer
Its getting warmer, both the CC and the weather. -Full Droop. No springs. 100wt oil. -Still has some stall. Might be the Rat-shack switches. -Axial beadlocks, original tires baked off stock rims and got a little deformed. -Started with star-cut foams, but pulled them out. -Lead around hubs and BB's in tires. Need to re-weigh them, cannot remember the what they are right now. Last edited by sweli; 04-20-2009 at 09:07 PM. |
