Can I dye the rims black without removing the tires?

I'm doubting it. If the plastic is dyable you need to boil the dye, which at the very least it would probably unglue the tires.

The length of time you need to boil the rims would most likely do damage to the tires. Boil them for a few minutes to get the tires off the rims then try the the rims to see if they take dye. The rims will have to boil for 15 or more minutes to get the dye to take if it will. DISCLAMER: I HAVE NOT DONE THIS SO I WILL NOT TAKE THE BLAME IF SOMETHING GETS MESSED UP.

I oven baked the tires off the stock rims following the instructions on a sticky in the tire section. They came off, but two are now permanentely distorted. Go easy on the heat! |

Since my last post, I boiled a set off and the stock rims are bigger than 2.2. I would say 2.3 or 2.35. I dont know if I can get them to fit. If I had to stretch the tires on, it would be ok, but there is play between the stock tire and 2.2 rim.

Glad they came off for you ..............doesn't suprise me that they are a little different, thats the way Duratrax does things. If there is play your best bet would be to try to get them on Beadlocks and not to glue them on (glueing may not work out to well). Any 2.2 tire should still fit on the stock rims if you wanted to go that route.

Straight from tower, Tires: 4.25" (108mm) diameter, 2" (51mm) wide extra soft compound for high traction, low rebound foam inserts Wheels: 2.3" (59mm) diameter, 1.6" (40mm) wide, gray in color with 12mm hex mounts that are compatible with 1/10 scale wheels they claim 2.3" wheels? i was almost certain they had to be 2.2 which is standard at least for crawlers:? |

A pic from your thread Rag6. So do they fit good enough to glue onto regular 2.2? |

glued up a full set, but won't know how they will hold up until I get a couple of runs on them. So far, so good. It seems the tire bead is also about 1mm too wide for the Hpi rims. On a side note, they look kind of cool on traxxas 2.8 allstars.
