Default Q: How to wind your own motor?

Has anyone experimented with winding their own motors? I have a couple of cans and a few armatures left over from my sedan racing days. I was thinking of winding my own high turn (40+) motor to use in my crawler.

Has anyone tried this?

Any thoughts, comments or suggestions whether you have tried this or not?

Thanks.

Here is one of my old touring car modified motors that I rewound from original 10T double to be 60T single. The right one (11T triple) will soon be rewinding when I have more free time.
... Result ... I installed it on my mod TLT and working great with a lot of power and long run time. This motor could be easily completed with the lathe 55T motor.
I want to mention one thing that I did not do the balancing the armature after I did the winding (just make sure it is neat and tight) and it hasn't had any problem yet so far. Probably because of the low speed using and also it's been running just very little warm after the hard crawling.

Great information - thanks!

I'll probably play with this later in the week and report back.

big jim has pissed me off a few times by telling me that "engineering crap" has nothing to do with real world performance, and that i am foolish for wasting my time with high wind motors. he is very ignorant to the needs of anyone other than a racer- in my experience.
