Default The Tekin FX-R

I've been looking for a new speed control for my 2.2 comp rig and didn’t' want something massive like the Novak Rooster/Crawler (which is what I use now) or the Castle Creations Mamba Max. My goal was to find a small ESC with 6.0V/3Amp BEC, Drag Brake, User Programmable, and capable of handling a 3 Cell LiPo. For my personal setup I'm going to be using a 3 Cell LiPo/55x1 motor combo so that I have plenty of wheel speed while still maintaining the low speed smooth operation.

I've looked everywhere for the ideal ESC and found nothing that I really like. Earlier today I had the pleasure of talking with Scooter at Team Tekin, and he recommended the FX-R or FX-R Pro. I've looked at the specs and there pretty impressive. In fact there VERY impressive. Here's a quick run-down;

- Fully programmable both in the field and by PC
- Solder Posts (a huge deal for me as I'm always changing the wiring)
- Digital Glitch Filtering
- Drag Brake (11 steps)
- 4-9 Cell / 2-3 S LiPo
- 6.0V/3.0A BEC
- 12 Motor Limit
- Rev. Types
- Rev. Strength
- and only a 1.1x.80x.40 foot print

That’s one heck of a package! So I'm going to put it too the test. I know, I know, what the $@@ is a post good for without a review or images.....? I'm so excited about this ESC that I had to do it. I'll have the ESC in the next week or so and will post up a full review For those of you who know me, you know that I don't stand behind a product unless I totally buy into it (or they pay me a ton of money to do so :-)

I hope this little ESC holds up to its specs.

Until then...Happy Crawling!

DAYMMMB!!! That's the size of the Spektrum Micro Receiver... and if you have seen one of those you know just how small that is. And I just bought a Mamba Max two weeks ago, bitch. :-(

Priced a little high for being brushed only.

Look forward to seeing how it performs.

Not a bad price. Tower's is known for pricing things a little higher until the item is in stock.

It looks like it has a lot of potential. Even at that price its not bad. I have been buying Mamba Max's with no intention of running a brushless motor.

I'd pay that much for the size alone. Crap, now where am I going to come up with more $

The price is a little higher than the competition but that isn't what I was taking into account when I was looking for a new ESC. I'm looking for a competition ESC and for what your getting with this, the price is spot on.

Should also be noted, Tekin is a very good company, but they were bought by another guy who brought the Tekin brand back. So they might be higher in price but it is still a relatively new company since it re-opened the doors.

I like Tekin...I wouldn't be shocked to see them offer a Crawler level version...

Sounds very promising, I will need to pick one up and try it out. Glad to see tekin stepping more into the dedicated crawler parts, nice to see from our side for sure.

Let us know how it works. I was going to test one out and ran out of cash. I think its an awesome ESC and adjustable drag brake. I also read an article awhile back about Tekin and they will be releasing a crawler edition.

I have the Tekin FX-R in my Axial and can only say that it works a treat. Instant reverse and strong drag brakes. I took a risk trying it aftyer my Novak Rooster Crawler had an earily funeral after about 1 min of run time. I can strongly recommend this ESC to anyone !!!!

I'm also running the FX-Rin my Scorpion. It's great! I'm running a Novak 55 and a 3-cell Lipo, and it's plenty smooth with one of the quickest instant reverses I've ever used. The drag brake is amazing- it'll hold the thing on any hill. I LOVe the size, absolutely tiny. Amazing that it can do all that and be so small..

Can you adjust the brake so that it will inch down a steep descent?

I picked one up today, got it hooked up with a Cobalt 10t and love it Control is very smooth, better than any brushless I have ran. Drag brake is very close to as good as the best brushless I have ran and much better than the Goat. BEC seems to be stong enough although I might still get an external. The adjustments are pretty easy. And the size is incredible.

With an 8 pack of elite 1500's its about the same speed as my Goat I was running and with a 6 pack its still very acceptable. I still have way more than enough torque, I put on a 14/87 and think I might gear up a little and see how it works.

I have ran a lot of different systems and right now this is probably my favorite. I can't say for sure because I haven't driven it enough but its got my vote for now.

Does It also have a 6 volt/ 5 amp BEC? and you can adjust the hold brakes.

Also do you have to have tekin's hot wire link to change settings

I am going to be using a FX-R on my Losi with a 45t motor and a 3s lipo system , I just gotta find the right spur gear for the motor .
YES drag brakes are awesome but it is a little easier with the Losi
