Exclamation Advantages of a brushless motor setup?

What is the advantage of having a brushless motor set up with a crawler (or any RC for that matter)? And what is a "brushless" motor anyways?

Brushless motors are 3-phase DC motors that do not use a brush between the external wires and the comm. There is no comm, only a magnetic rotor. It's more like an alternator than a generator.

Advantages are better braking, longer runtime and more power. Use a small outrunner if your motor is mounted high, like in a Weeny King.

Outrunners aren't as smooth as a brushed motor, and take some getting used to. A sensored system like the Novak is as smooth as it gets, but doesn't offer the weight-saving advantages.

There's only about a thousand threads on brushless here. Search around, you'll find a lot of opinions.
