Default Mamba 25 or Sidewinder for brushed 370?

I am looking for an ESC for my VMG and I want something with zero reverse-delay and really smooth off-the-line throttle control.
I am thinking the Mamba 25 or the Sidewinder sound like the best choice, but I can't decide which one. They are both about the same price.

Anybody want to throw in their 2 cents on the pros and cons of each ESC?
I can't seem to find how much the Sidewinder weighs. It is a small truck.
It's got a Team Associated Super 370 Motor (brushed) with GWS gear reduction unit - 6.6:1 and a 10 tooth pinion.
Battery: 6 cells - 2/3a, 1400 mah. Since the stock ESC is combined with the receiver, I just got a Traxxas TQ3 Tx/Rx off ebay.
I understand the Mamba 25 will now work with a brushed motor? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The Mamba 25 will only work with 45t and higher if I remeber correctly or it might be 55t. Anyway I have a sidewinder and love it, and I think it would be your best bet.

Ah, I did not know that. I thought the Mamba 25 was limited to smaller motors like 370 and smaller. I didn't know anything about a turn limitation.
Thanks for the info.

take a look at rev 1.16, see where it says "brushed support added"

The mamba 25 was designed for 1/18th scale cars, so I imagine 370 can motors are what they had in mind when they added brushed support. It should be fine.

how you get 120?

I use Mamba25 on rc car but ready to get sidewinder for my scaler. I still love MambaMax on my crawler!

Why the Sidewinder, specifically? What feature or thing makes it better in your experience?

I just want to know why people are using one or the other.

Thanks for your help.

You should do some searches on the mamba 25. Yes, the mamba 25 can handle brushed motors now with the updated firmware. However, some forum members were having issues with the mamba 25 and brushed motors. Read the thread about the new software / firmware released from Castle a month or so ago.

New Castle software update

The Mamba Max is the best you can get. If that is too much $$$, buy the SideWinder. I have used a Mamba 25 with a Holmes revolver brushless motor in my 2.2 tuber on 2S lipo and it worked well. I am now going to use a Mamba 25 with a Holmes brushless out runner and 3S lipo on my 2.2 scaler. I use the CC BEC with my Mamba 25 BTW.

I think people like the sidewinder so much because basically it has all the features of the Mamba Max, as for the new sidewinder micro I will be buying one of those very soon lol.

- The SideWinder has a stronger drag brake.
- The SideWinder was designed from the ground up to be used with brushed or brushless (unlike the mamba 25)
- The SideWinder is a true 1/10th scale ESC (unlike the mamba 25, it was designed for 1/18th scale)

You should really use the search feature in the forum and educate yourself.

I personally used the Mamba 25 because of it's small size for my scaler. I have 4 Mamba Max's for everything else and one Novak Rooster Crawler in my son's GC1 AX-10. You need to make up your own mind on what you want and what you think will work best for you. No one can do that for you.

The sidewinder will handle lots of abuse, the mamba 25 won't.

Your welcome.

The Castle Creations Sidewinder ESC is the next step in affordable brushless technology! It can be considered a "sport" version of the Mamba Max, as it keeps all of the main features but at reduced cost. The main difference is no direct USB port and less amp handling as compared to the Mamba Max.

Controls Brushed and Brushless motors
19t brushed motor limit in forward/reverse mode
no brushed motor limit in forward high power mode
5-12 cell nimh, 2-3 cell lipo compatible
1.8"x1.4" footprint (46x35mm)
7/8" tall (22mm)
Cool black anodized pin heatsink
Estimated 60- 70A continuous

Programmable with the Castle Link accessory programmer, (pending the next update from Castle) Best of all, the software has been updated for even better control of brushless motors!

The pricing is great. I didn't want to spend a lot for an esc. I just ordered a sidewinder micro for $56 and some change and thats with shipping included. Can't wait to get it.
