| Looking for waterproof, 3S capable brushed ESC
...with reverse. If it can also operate brushless, that would be a bonus. Just dunked my Tekin Rebel in the pond. It smoked so bad that one of the battery leads fell out of the ESC case! Time for something new and better Plus I don't want to have to worry about a little water stopping my fun. Thanks for any suggestions! |

Sounds like you need to just get a waterproof box, nothing on the market that will take 3s that I know of.

Right, thus my statement that there isn't anything for 3s lipo on the market that I know of. LVC is key for lipo use.

How about an Mtroniks Viper? http://www.mtroniks.net/mtroniks_SC_...ubCategoryID=3 ...or the "super truck" http://www.mtroniks.net/mtroniks_SC_...ubCategoryID=5 I know a lot of possible ESC's will not have lipo cutoff. I have been using lipos without cutoff in everything from helis to crawlers to RX packs and starter boxes. I can handle it How about the LRP Marine Reverse? http://www.lrp-electronic.de/e/lis/ (bottom of page, but only "splash proof") |

OK, so I waterproof my junk myself, which ESC would you recommend then? FYI: While I rawk crawl and like it alot, I also take my rig out and beat the crap out of it doing other stuff like hill climbing, mud, logs, sand, jumps... and ponds. So, not totally concerned with drag brake and all that. Thanks again Last edited by Train Of Thought; 03-31-2008 at 09:12 PM. |

The Mamba Max can handle 3s. I think they say it's water resistant rather than waterproof. I sank my crawler which uses a mamba max at the weekend in a foot or two of water and the whole thing was fine. Unfortunately I hadn't finished setting up my waterproof electronics box, everything was in the box, but it wasn't sealed up and waterproof... The RX took a while to dry out and until it did the whole thing was glitching until it was completely dry but everything survived and it's all running again now. Finedesign put a Hydra 120 or something in their brushless LST conversion, it's probably overkill for a crawler but I think it can handle up to 6S LiPo, it's completely waterproof, don't know about the breaking options. |

I think I heard somewhere that the Mamba series is waterproof, I know the mamba 25 is waterproof, but I am unsure about the max. you might give castle a call tomorrow.

Castle controllers are conformal coated. Water resistant, not necessarily dunkable.

So they wouldnt be ok for mudding or semi deep water crossings. What kind of case would you put them in? Looking at getting a mamba max but need something for all terrain. Mud, rocks, water, dirt, sand |

I would put one into a ballon or condom, then seal the opening with some silicon and a ziptie.

I assume a non lubed condom I read about dry-rot withthe balloon. How often do you change yours. How about overheating problems. i will be running during our summers here in Washington and it can hit 110. Just drive it into a creek to cool it off |

I don't run in water, solves the problem If I were, I would use a mamba max to keep the heat down. Then I would either balloon it (change every month or so) or put it into a small tupperware container. |

Looks like I'll be Ballooning as i plan on using a Mamba Max. Just velcro it down? Would it be ok to put the receiver in with the ESC or would that be too much heat in one balloon?

I would use zip ties to keep it down, a balloon would shift on the velcro. If your RX doesn't hate you for being too close to the ESC give it a shot. I would use a different balloon on the other side of the rig for picky radios.

I have been using a $0.78 travel soap dish from wally-world. it is large enough for my mamba-max, 7channel r/x, and CCBEC. notched one end to let the wires out, and shoe gooed the heck out of it. seems to work ok.
