| Rooster Crawler and 8 cell batt pack= boom?
I bought a rooster crawler esc and an 8 cell split pack. I have now become aware that the rooster is only rated for 6 or 7 1500mah cells. So how bad would it be to run the 8? Should I just send it back and get a 7 cell? |

You should be ok, just keep an eye on the heat and know that your BEC will be lower than rated spec.

Keep the heat sink under 140f, or 160f if you want to push it a bit. It should actually handle around 200f.

I looked in the book that came with mine and it plainly states that it is rated for a 7 cell pack max. |

Good thread b/c I had the very same question. I got the Rooster/Novak 55T motor combo in my Scorpion and am currently running a 6 cell saddle pack. I noticed the ratings said 7 cell limit but I figured an 8 cell would be ok. Plus I'm running the optional Novak cooling fan on it. Does anyone know how much the fan actually cools the esc down? I plan on get a BEC for my set up as well.

Sorry man, I returned the 8 cell for a 7 cell this week I figured that I didnt want to risk it. I have now gotten my axial kit together, just need to make some plates to add to the side plates so I can get 2 1/4 ride height with my droop shocks. These things are just like the real deal, always changing something.

For reference, I have been running a 3 cell LiPo on a Rooster 12T successfully for several months in my very heavy scaler, no problems at all. I was told that the internal BEC is the main limiting factor in battery restrictions for esc's, so I added a CC BEC and all has been great. Running a 3 cell, I also added an external LiPo cut-off. |

Try running a BEC or reciver pack, pull the red wire from the ESC servo plug first. This should help prevent it from shutting down, or over heating.
