Default 2 hobbico cs-80 1/4 servos off 9.6v?

just curious if any of you guys have subjected servos to more volts than what they are listed at.

i benchtested my hobbico 1/4 scale servos at 9.6v last night on my toilet tuber, bypassing the s.r. and the reciever and directly tapping the red and black wires to the battery (8cell 3300nimh). before i had them sucking juice thru the reciever using the s.r.'s bec, but in high load situations it would glitch and stop working. the dreaded 'stall & squeal' for those who know what i'm talking about.

it works just fine with no load. (rig completely torn apart) but i know 9.6 is mucho pushing it.... but then again these arent little servos.

if i have to i'll get a voltage reg, but i just may try this out and see how it goes unless its a for sure smoke-fest.

btw, kinda related.

i'm currently running 8-cells on this pig. if i drop down to 6-cells do you think it would still have enough grunt to crawl? (i would imagine 7.2v would be alot better on the servos than 9.6...) keep in mind it aint no lightweight rig.

i have a ttr gear reduction unit on the txt tranny and a t-600 electrofly can. i forget the final ratio, but its geared down quite a bit.

sorry for the newbish questions, i just really want to put this back together and not have to order stuff if i can help it...

I ran 7.2 volts on my hobbico 1/4 scales and they seemed to like it.I also know Heavy does also and loves his set up.

thanks man, i guess i'll report at a later time whether or not 9.6 is to much for the biggies to handle.

Hey i noticed a while ago that you posted about testing your Hobbico CS-80 servos at 9.6v - i am very interested in any followup - i'm doing my own project that requires 3 linked (they're running at 6v right now) but i need/want more torque.

Any info you have would be GREATLY appreciated

HOW to make a 6 volt voltage regulator!

Post #5 and #6. Those should work if you are going to run 8 cells.
