I get the same problem... my LRP speedo gets hot (like burning to touch) and the motor also gets extremely hot...
I already ordered a 12t pinion and a 93t spur, i hope this helps to get rid of the problem...

Me and my son both run the XRS in both of or Twin Force crawlers. They don't seem to get REAL hot, they do get warm to the touch though. So far we are pleased with the performance of the XRS.

I would think lower gears would aid the heat thing. We are both running GD 600's with the 3.2(I think) gearing. My son runs a Lathe and a 18 tooth pinion and a 50 tooth spur. I'm running a MM and a 18 tooth pinion and a 72 tooth spur. He's running LST's and I'm running Kongs. With the difference in tire size, motor selection and gearing they run pretty equal but he does get me a little on runtime.

drop the pinion down a couple of teeth and that should help alot with the hotter temps.my tlt is stock with stock gearing,it is not geared for dedicated crawling as it does have some good speed stock.so gearing it down will help when crawling
