Default High end servo

Stripped the gears out of my comp Axial's steering servo today. I did a little searching, but it turns out that there are a lot of threads about servos, very few of which have anything to do with my needs. I've got some knowlege about what is out there, but am not sure what works best. I'm looking for a comp grade servo that will be:

1. Durable
2. Powerful
3. Not pull huge power

I've got a CC BEC, so supplying power to it isn't a problem, but I'd like to maintain as long a run time as possible. In addition to suggestions, anyone have an idea about the difference in power draw between a cheaper servo like a 645mg and something like a 5955tg and how it will affect run time?

for an axial I highly recoment the jr 9100t or 8711. I am currently running the 8711 on my super clod and it is KILLER. best investment I have ever made! the 9100t has a little less torque (370 vs 403), but you cannot beat it for the price. ($115 or $140 for an 8711). hitec 5955's cost about the same as the 9100t but only have about 333 oz of torque. Good ol' chicken butt tower pro servos work pretty well, and have by far the best torque to price ratio, 200 oz of torque for 20 bucks! not the highest in quality, but not a bad little servo.

as far as runtime, you would have to be running a pretty small battery to notice any significant loss in runtime with a more powerful servo.

Power = amp draw with our standard servos. I run mostly hitec 5955's in my rigs that need power.

Probably under half for the 645vs 5955. 5955s will stall 5 to 7 amps. 645 should stall about 2 to 3.

there are a lot of good servos, I know my JR's are power hogs, I don't have exact draw #'s but I know I cant run a 9000t and a hs 85 mg at the same time off a 3 amp 6v bec

Any ideas about what effect that will have on run time? Also, any idea what the total amp draw for the average rig is under comp conditions?

Any digital servo will draw more mAH because they works much more often. Even driving and not steering the digital servos will want to keep centering, not a bad thing.

If you are worried about run time...buy a second pack or a third. Comps are 5-10 minutes per course, and bashing you should still pull in plenty of run time.

My son runs a Z9100T,with a rooster crawl, 6 cell 1500 EP's and a Novak 55t with no problem's and still runs for over an hour. It's not that big of an issue.

What size tires are you running on your Clod? Is it a 2.2 rig or Super? A 645 is too small for a Super rig,but I know alot of guys running them on 2.2 Clods.

A lot of guys strip out the gears in 645's with 2.2s too. If you want a cheap durable servo, get a tower pro. Several of the local guys run them in rock racers around here, no problems. You're more likely to break ears off the case than strip gears in a tower pro.

No surprise there....supers are alot harder on steering servos. I would never recommend a HS645MG for a Clod or any other super and not even a 2.2 CLod!

I run a 5955TG with a 2s 1100mah lipo and bl goat and average about 40 min. or so in runtime, I was running a 985mg and see no difference in runtime that I can attribute to the servo change. In my setup wheelspeed/throttle control has an effect on runtime but I can't tell any difference in reduced runtime from just the servo swap. While there may be a difference, I think runtime effects should be low priority in your servo selection.
