| Novak Goat Question
I recently installed a Goat system in my crawler yesterday. I currently have a 2s 1330 7.4v Lipo pack. I want to know if it's safe to run a 11.1v 3s pack on it. I've read a few different things on them, and I've heard you can, and you can't.

I don't think it's rated for 3s, and I wouldn't want to be the one to get magic smoke from my goat system after paying $$$$. |

The specs on novak's web site say it is only good with 4-6 cells or 2s lipo. No go on the 3s lipo, you will get the magic smoke!

Why do you need more power? Sorry silly question I forgot this is the "Rock Crawling" form. I've run 7 cells and the extra voltage didn't make a noticeable differance for the additional weigh so I've just been running 6 cells and I have more than enough wheel speed for my driving style and run time is near 1 hour.

I want the extra power for when I really might need it, more power never hurt anyone!

Howdy, A customer that is local to us came in with his crawler for a setup issue, noticed he had a 3S pack installed and warned him not to use. He was fine with the warning and continued to use it. Few weeks later came back with a burned up ESC. So they work, but they won't last. We strongly recommend staying within the recomendations. thanks charlie@teamnovak.com |

I played on staying with the 2s. I just wanted to know for future reference. I dont plan on frying my expensive combo.

darkster, a 6 or 7 cell which is the max recommended, has more than enough power. I don't feel like any other combo out there is any more powerful and still provides the drive ability of the Goat. Even the Cobalts running Lipos or 8 cells don't seem to put out any more torque or wheel speed IMO. I think you made a great choice I haven't seen anything that makes me want to sell my Goat yet.

I'll be testing out the Goat later today... On the settings however, what profile are you running?

I don't have a rooster but it can be set to lock it up pretty well.

Mine is on the factory settings and the drag brake will stop you very well and actually hold you in place in all but the steepest inclines.

More power? I have had my goat system since Oct. of last year. all I can say is there isn't anything I have come up against that the motor couldn't power through. the drag break is a little weird in the way it works but once your use to it it's manageable. Gyyro |

LOVE my Goat on the 6 cells. TONS of wheel speed. I see no need to go up to 7 cells. My pals running 3 cell lipos on Mamba ESCs and various motors really are not any or much faster....and I love the control afforded by the Goat setup. VERY SMOOTH.

I use Lipo's only right now, so the 2s 1400 ones I have seem to work very well.

| I use a 2s 1500 Electrifly and do just fine. I did lose wheelspeed when changing trannys (Axial to R2D) but thats a just pinion change. I just havent minded what little wheelspeed I lost to regear. The 3s option would be nice though just for laughs |

IMO the Novak 18.5 motor with a 6 cell pack can hangs in with the best. I drove my buddies 7t Cobalt on a Lipo pack with big voltage last weekend and it was smooth and powerful I liked driving it. But it was not quite as smooth on startup and it had no more wheel speed than my Goat. I ran out runners last year and the throttle control at start up was never smooth (cogging) and when I needed just a little more power to drive a obstacle it would always give me more than I wanted. Not true with the Goat it's always well behaved. I'm also very happy with the built in 6 volt Bec as well. It sends good power to my 5955 Hitec servo without a separate Bec. The entire package is small and weighs less than many other set ups if you compare the whole package. Novak also has good customer service if you need it (my set up was one of the first and has preformed flawlessly) so what's not to like. Last edited by Stormin2u; 05-17-2008 at 08:47 AM. |
