| Castle Sidewinder Q?
I just purchased a sidewinder for my new ax10. I am going to run a brushed 55t and was wondering if I need to program the esc for this. I am hopeing that I can mount the esc and crawl without any pc settings. Can someone clear this up for me?

Mine came set up for brushless. The only way to change it to brushed is to use the Castle Link and your PC.Sorry

The default is brushless however I think you can change it through sequences on your TX, not the easiest process however it is possible ;)

The 1.17 version of software on the Sidewinder will allow you to program everything from the transmitter..................except for the brushless/brushed setting. It kicks you out when you get to that step. You have to program the brushless/brushed option through the Castle Link. I don't know if the 1.18 version fixed that problem. 1.18 did fix it, or maybe it was 1.17 that did and 1.16 was the version with the issue.

There's a V1.18? Didnt know that came out. But when I got my Sidewinder it was programed for brushless. I ended up getting a Castlelink to run brushed. Also just as an FYI the drag brake sucks with a brushed lathe motor.

I was going off this revision history. http://www.castlecreations.com/downl...idewinder.html I'm not sure how to check the version on my ESC though. Not that I tried very hard , I had a Castle Link so I plugged it in. |

If it has the 1.17 version firmware (or I guess now enven 1.18 ) you can stick program it for brushed (factory defalt is brushless) if it has 1.16 it will kick you out just before you can change it. Castle was very good to me with mine when it came with the older firmware. I highly recomend getting a castle link as it is really worth it. I have had very good luck with the drag brake on mine. You can set it to 100% with the link but only 40 or 50% with the stick programming.

The one I just purchased allowed me to set everything without the CastleLink. It's kind of a pain to do...you start it on it's programming sequence and it clicks X times to tell you which step you're on, then it clicks Y number of times after that to tell you which option is currently selected for that step...throttle forward for yes, back for no, then it moves on to the next one. You will have to program it out of the box. Mine at least (and it sounds like others) came pre-programmed for brushless and it will not work right with a brushed motor unless you change that setting. It also defaults to no drag brake and you will want to turn that on full-blast too. Short version: nope, don't need the CastleLink. Yup, gonna have to program it. |

You have to program it. Could use your radio or a castle link like everyone else mentioned. Or give your lhs a call I am sure if they had the castle link they would do the programing and updating for you. If they have it and still dont want to program it for you maybe you should look for a new hobby store.
