Default ESC shutting down??

A friend of mine has a Castle sidewinder on his car and he just installed a hitec 5955 servo on it. He is using a cheap 2 channel futaba radio and he said with the new servo when he turns it shuts down the car and he has to turn it off and back on to get it to work. I am thinking that since he cant set the EPAs with that remote it is pulling to much juice from the ESC and causing it to shut down. Wouldnt a BEC fix the problem?

Robert, it might be the amo draw from the servo shutting it down, i had a spectrum doing the same thing. I installed a ccbec and wired the servo directly to the bec and ran the signal wire from the servo to the rx. works great, this helps witht he amp draw not going threw the rx here is a thread with the wiring diagram....

Definitive wiring diagrams for BECs Rx Servos Motors etc.

Thanks for the link. I bet that will help out with ihs glitching problem too. For some reason when he goes in reverse it glitches a little bit. We try putting the diodes on the motor and it didnt help.

ESC is shutting down because of amp draw from servo. Get a BEC to fix that. There are a 100 different threads stating this. A quick search would have revealed this.

You still have the problem of no epa's. Make sure the servo doesn't try and go farther than linkage will allow. If it does and is always in a bind, servo will heat up and won't last long. Move the linkage up on the servo arm if need be to stop binding till he gets a better radio.

Well yesterday I brought a CC BEC over to his house and we wired it up and go it going and it was working great. The last night he said he was playing with it and it all of sudden go to where when he went in reverse it would but when he went forward the green light on the ESC would flash but nothing happened. So he checked voltage going to the motor and the ESC wasnt putting out any juice in forward. So I guess the servo damaged the ESC before we got the BEC on there. Corey at RPPhobby hooked him up with a Novak rooster so he will be good to go by the weekend for our comp.
