Question too much juice??

ok so I am looking to build a split-pack setup for my axial. I am running an integy 55t lathe and the novak rooster crawler edition esc. Today my lhs know-it-all told me that there was no way I could run more than a 6 cell setup with out ruining my esc....what gives? I have seen many builds on here with 7 cells and some with 8. I really wanted the extra oomphh of an 8 cell and the weight benifit as well. Is this info correct?

I believe this is where the castle creations bec comes into play you can program how much juice you want going where. If I’m not mistaken.

I've seen many on 8 cells. Just disable the internal BEC and run the castle. Im not sure about motors lower than 55T. They will work the ESC harder. Remember this will void any warranties on it.

Most manufactures reccomendations keep you/them on the safe side.
You should be able to get away with running a split pack 8 cell, just don't push it too hard, for a couple of short 5 minute comp run's, you shouldn't have any problems. I've run mine on 8 cell split packs a lot with a Rooster Crawler. Remember though, do so at your own risk, like Dirtyal said, you won't be covered under warranty.

ok...so since i do quite a bit of exploration runs and such around here for soon to be comp areas, i run pretty long times on my gear. So do you think i would see a speed and torque gain off running a larger 6 cell pack? i run a 3300 now, what if i stepped up to a 4500 or 5100? would it just be longer run time or more power if i ran it harder?

I know of several guys here in WA who have been running the Rooster Crawler on 11.1v lipos with a CC BEC and the red wire pulled on the Rooster for quite a while with no issues.

I've been told the Rooster will handle 8 cells but it will shorten the life of the unit?

Well I just started looking into this also. I have 8 cell packs and just bought a rooster crawler and rooster. What is going to happen to the ESC with the 8cells? You say that it will shorten the life but what is the life of an ESC?

im a newb but i can say that my rooster crawler edition on 8cell 1500 nihm split packs 55t has zero problems. nothing gets hot my run times are 45/60 min easy lots of wheel speed outstanding holding brake.when i bought mine it said on the papper work that it would hold 8cell packs.i would not have bought it if it didnt.a stock ax10 esc will hold 5/10 cells so there web site says i dont know personally just what ive read.and the only bec im running as of now is the built in one but that will soon change.ive only ran 12 cycles threw the esc so far so i have no clue what the life of one is. remeber i am new to this." EDIT" it said 7 cell regardless ive had no issues i asked lots of questions on this before i purchased them so i guess i was going buy what i was told on here
