| Sidewinders with 4s Lipo
Has anyone tried running the Sidewinder with a 4s lipo? I have two Sidewinders on my clod super, currently running a ThunderPower 3850 Extreme V2 3s and I have a 4s 2200 Extreme V2 I would like to try. I know the Sidewinder states 15 volts max, but considering the application isn't high rpm I'm hoping it will be OK? |

Is this still in brushed reversing mode, yes? Just wondering if i should be switching to high power brushed for a 27t on 3s LiPo in my buggy. Cheers, Paul. |

| Thanks Tanis, I'm gonna give it a go. I'm also using the Castle BEC, red wires pulled, dual 55t lathes. I like having the wheelspeed avail when I need it.

'Officially' the Sidewinder is only rated up to 3S LiPo (11.1V). I was wondering about running 4S myself as I want to run A123 packs and they are lower voltage/cell than conventinal LiPo. I wasn't sure if a Sidewinder would take the 13-14V they push out though, I tohught the Sidewinder and Mamba Max were only rated up to 12V but in fact if you do the math, it's rated at 14.4V on NiMH running a 4600 motor... This evidence is kinda encouraging however, is it worth trying a 4S A123? Last edited by BritCrawler; 07-30-2008 at 07:02 AM. |

Well I tried a 4s lipo in my super tonight, wow the wheel speed is insane! After some tweaking of the throttle curves I think I got it where I want it, great smooth low end control and crazy high end wheel speed. I need to take it out to the rocks for the real test though, I'm sure the battery life will be shorter as I was using a 3850 3s and the 4s is only 2200, the battery life will be more than enough to run a couple of courses though |

Just watch the heat on it and you should be OK. I have ran 4s on my sidewinders many times.

| Thanks John, I will be using a temp gun (infrared) to monitor the temps. I want to do some testing on the rocks to see if the extra wheel speed is beneficial, if it proves to be even slightly beneficial I may stick with 4s, if not I will be switching back to 3s.

I see the SW is rated for 12/8 cells running NIMH batts depending on the motor but those are brushless. What would the limit be with a 35-55t brushed on nimh? |
