Default Servo question

Does someone know if a servo requires an voltage input to maintain a certain (non-nuetral) position.

Question

OK... Let me re-phrase the question.

Does anyone know how a servo works?

If your talking about voltage the servo is supplied voltage threw your ESC dependent on what voltage your ESC delivers will impact how powerful or quick your servo operates. Novak ESCs for example provide 6v which is close to the maximum voltage your average servo. Other ESCs an you'll need to check the specs on yours may provide less voltage to the servo if you find your ESC provides less than 6v you will need to add a extremal BEC.

Yes a servo does require voltage to stay in any position, even neutral. This is why you can move most servos pretty easily with the radio off, but you cant move them out of neutral with the radio on, what exactly are you trying to do with it?

Thanks

Here is what I want to know.

If I supply a servo, a certain voltage for a certain duration, will the servo move a certain distance and does the servo require some signal (voltage) to hold the position.

If the above is correct then by supplying the opposite signal I can return the servo to it's original position.

If a tie my winch cable to the front suspension and hank down on it during a steep climb, does the winch need a signal or will it hold the position?
I want to use something like this http://www.frederickscom.com/pdf/0729-1727.pdf , so won't need a separate channel to tweek the suspension during climbs

Anyone remember a kids toy with a wired remote where the car would turn if you tipped the remote?

I need to know the name of that toy, or the control curcuit.

Servos use 3 wires. Positive and Negative for the motor to spin and turn the output and gears.

The third wire is a signal wire.
