Exclamation what happened to my lipo, help me out!

Ok, so I have a new 3s 1500 mAh CKRC battery, I have done all the right things, (I think) I have charged it at the 3s 1.5 amp setting on my thunder power 610 and used the balancer that came with the charger, I have my mamba max set at 9.0v cutoff and have only cycled the battery twice. Today, when I looked at my lipo, the top cell was expanded and my charger says I have an error or reverse polarity, I checked the voltage on my battery and it was around 3 volts. So, help me out here guys, did I do something wrong, or did I just get a faulty battery from the get-go? Any help is appreciated

here's some pics of the battery-

Did you leave it plugged in? That is definately a puffed cell, usually happens when the cell gets hot as in overcharge or discharge.

Bad battery. Take it out side and put it in a safe place.

feel lucky you didnt learn with an exploded battery and possible house fire. while it dont happen alot, it does happen and lipos are a bit more suceptable to this than the older NiMH or NiCD bats.

Put it in a bucket of salt water for a week or two. This will nuteralize the battery and you can put it in the trash safely.

would soaking it in a solution of water and baking soda work? if so, would it work any faster? i use it to nuetralize parts as i lye and anodize them. seems like it may work with these batterys if salt water does.

anyone know?

That's how rc heli's are with lipos. You just make damn sure you unplug it before turning the radio off. Been there, done that, got the cuts on my hands form the blades to prove it.

I did something similar, first day I took the cub out to fly I flipped the switch off on the TX after I landed and it took off into the fence that separates the runway from the "pit" area, apparently thats what that fence is actually there for

ya, before you power off your tx, rc regardless, you always want to turn off the RX, and if you have a failsafe, run a pre run check to ensure its working and working correctly, ie, idle/brake off when failsafe engauges ect...

on the large Scale gasser rcs *(surface) alot of us run remote kill switches that allows us to kill the gas motor (remember is a spark plug ignition system so it runs if its got fuel and throatle and will only shut off when its empty, you push the kill switch, foul a plug, or sieze the motor. lol but with the remote kill switches, you can kill the motor with the 3rd channel. also if you have signal issues or lose RX power, some of them will automatically kill the gas motor, cant have a run away if it isnt running. heh.

if you have a built in failsafe on the radio, check it for proper setup, so if you shut it off again, you dont have the plane trying to solo, or any other rc.

This is one the the BIG Bonuses for me with crawling. even if i DO have a run away, i can walk faster than the crawler can run. lmao.

Once you add a BEC then you have no other choice but to unplug the battery.

That usually happens with a poor quality cell. We just got a sample in from a factory that was a supposed 25c 5000mah cell and we didnt even hit 25c before it puffed. Thats generally what will make it puff is a combo between a poor quality cell, and it not being able to handle the load.
