| Problem, Lipo inflating
I am new to this hobby and i'm not sure if this realy is a problem... After 3/4 hours of serious crawling and speed climbing with my 10 pound rig,I could feel the voltage was getting low. the 3s lipo got bigger like air pressure in it .It was just warm to toutch. I used a needle to let the pressure out of one cell ...pfff... I can not use an inflating battery because it is rubing on the outrunner. Now i'm not sure what to do with it. should i try to charge it ? Should i make a small hole in each cell to let the pressure out as it get warm ? Any advice would be apreciated Mike |

You should properly discharge the battery (in salt water), and dispose of it properly.

I would get rid of the battery and definetly don't charge again or puncture with a needle

| DO NOT PUNCTURE THE CELLS!!!! It sounds like you have allowed the cells in the pack to drop below 3.0 per cell which is the lowest voltage you should allow a lipo cell to reach. What ESC are you using? Does it have a LVC? |

You should know that with any battery not just lipo PLEASE take time to read ALL of the directions on lipo batteries. Discharge the pack below 2.5v then cut the wires off (ONE AT A TIME) and dispse. Lipo batteries are extremely safe unless they are used improperly, over charge/discharge, overheating and PUNCTURING all can cause explosion and fire. BE CAREFUL they can do alot of damage. |

It may not be the cut off. How are you charging packs? If they are not balanced when charging. One of the cells can easily drop to low. I set my cut off at 9.2 just to be safe and i balance them with a "Blinky balancer" everytime i charge them. I havent had a problem yet.

WOW!!!! You are lucky. Look up lipo fires on youtube and see what can happen. Make sure you read everything you can find on lipo information. As said above, they are safe as long as you follow the rules. Oh yeah, this is usually known as "puffing." |

| I had a 3s drop to 2.8v in one cell and it puffed a little. The cell was also about 126 degrees and the time. I let it cool and and checked the voltage. The cell was back at 3v. So I discharged and balanced charged the pack it was fine. But why would you puncture it? I had a cell get cut and it leaked and would not hold a charge. So give it time and the cell you punctured will die. |

Time to toss that pack. There was a writeup in one of the mags. Page 102, RC Car, Oct 2008. Might want to check it out. Looks like you should have that thing in a fireproof bucket or something and discharge completely, until it hits less than .5v per cell then its completely safe and can be thrown away. Lipo are extremely dangerous fire hazard. BTW I simply MUST know what pack it was, the C rating and Mah ratings, and your electronics combo. Where did you have it mounted as well. Thanks for all the have to know info... The pack is dieying in a plastic bucket filled with water and it's just fun to see it create some hydrogen bubbles. I will test the voltage in a few days... |
