Lipo will run longer for a couple of reasons. First, if you're running 11.1 volts, you'll likely be lighter on the throttle on average. Second, the voltage drop over the charge of the pack isn't nearly as big as with nimh packs, so (again) you're lighter on the throttle overall.

Yeah but if we compare apples to apples here. . . Assuming you have a 5000mah 6 cell Nimh that is of respectable quality and a 2S 5000mah Lipo of respectable quality, you wont notice much better runtime if any. In fact alot of my customers see a decrease in runtime as voltage goes up(Even if that is a result of a higher average voltage under load) because they're on it more. Its like having a muscle car and saying you're going to keep your foot out of it. . .yeah right

Thats a huge mis-conception. Alot of people think because lipo is a newer technology, it somehow will get you more runtime. But thats simply not true. Yeah you may decrease your average amp draw a little... but thats like getting 1mpg better on your car... who cares. Think of Mah as a gastank. 5000mah is still only 5000mah. It doesn't become more in a lipo.

You will find a more consistant voltage throughout the discharge. Runtime may be the same, but the nimh will start fast and dump off slow, while the lipo will hold strong during the entire run.
