| batteries clicking?
I got a 6 cell elite 2/3a axle pack about a month ago and now when i charge it it makes a really loud clicking sound and gets super warm. i normally charge it at 1.2 amps not even the max and it still does this. its just got me stumped.:-(

I had a stick pack do that right before it totally crapped out. You probably have a cell getting ready to check out if it hasn't done it already...

The cells are venting, it could be the cells don't have an equal amount of charge in them (you need to equalize the pack), so some end up getting over charged. The peak detect and/or charge rate on your charger is set too high (if it's very hot or very cold I tweak my peak detect up/down, the colder it is the higher peak detect setting I use).

you shouldn't be charging those at more than 2 amps. discharge them all the way and charge them back up at about 100mah. this will equalize and balance the cells. from there on out charge at about 1.5 amps and you should be good.

| just cycle them like the others said and it should be ok, also the clicking could be a bad weld to the batterys. it could be making intermittent contac and sparking when contact is made. if the cycling dosent help then open up the shrink wrap make sure the batteries are making good contact and re shrink wrap them back up .

It could also be the cells moving a bit under the shrink wrap. Is your runtime still good? Could be a bad cell in there, but it could just be cells moving around when the expand and contract. See if any cells are hotter than the rest. Do you have a temp gun? |

| If its got a warranty...now is the time to call !!
If / When you get to the point of removing the shrink wrap to check for a bad connection, you can also check for a bad cell. you will need a volt meter and a discharger to do this....place a discharging load on the naked battery pack 1.5-2 amps ish...while under load use the voltmeter to check each cell individually. As the pack voltage drops one or more cells will start to read lower than the others if a bad cell is your issue.

After it's charged, take a volt meter and check each cell. You may be better off discharging each cell indiviually and charging them individually, one time. Then you know they will be pretty close. I've had to do this on a few of my NiMh race packs. It's a long slow, tedious process but it might save you the few bucks for a new battery. |
