IMO I dont think motor break in is needed for a crawler. All your doing on break in is seating the brushes with the com so you have top performance your first run. As far as the clicking sound im not sure but when I ran brushed motors in my AX-10 I heard a clicking in reverse with Integys 55t and 75t. I wouldnt worry about it.

There is a short break in period on some motors so the brush's come in full contact with the commutator. as to your clicking check and see if the set screw is close to the spur the motor has a little bit of play and when you reverse rotation the shaft may move slightly and the set screw hits the teeth of the spur.

Some people break them in. I broke mine in crawling around on some rocks. Some folks even put them in a glass of water while they break them in to let the brush shavings float to the top! Saw a picture of on here but cant find it now.
