Default Receiver pack pains

OK, I'm running a Novak Rooster/ 55 turn combo with an Airtronics MX-3 radio system, a LiPo battery, and a Hitec 645 srvo. I would like to run a seperate receiver pack for the radio and servo, the instructions that came with the Rooster combo says to leave the ESC switch in the off position, but the ESC goes into the low voltage cut off mode when I apply the throttle. I'm not sure if I can trust the instructions, there only seem to be two throttle profiles when the instructions says there are four. So should I turn the ESC switch on, or just not use the receiver pack and save myself some headaches?
