Alright, update.

Was charging the battery last night, at a low charge. Fell asleep. Woke up this morning. Shut it off and check the voltages.

It was .5 volts off between cells! Wow, thats a bummer. Max per one cell is 4.5 vlts. Which is over charged

I should not have fallen asleep LOL

So now I can not charge the pack at a low voltage to try and balance it, because the one cell needs bled off.

However I am glad that I was able to monitor it to know not to charge it anymore(Would have stopped sooner if I was awake)

So I will drain off the one cell, and continue.

So my balancer is back, don't quite know why, but oh well.

My battery is very bad. It took me a day and a half to balance it, then re charge it. My balancer warned me everytime I tried to charge this 3s 3200mah lipo at anything over .5 amps. So after draining the battery down to 3.2 amps per cell, I charged it back at .5 amps. Kept it in balance the whole time.

The battery is junk as far as I know. The method of charging to balance does work fine with a good battery. However a bad one can't be done this way.

I do like checking the cells voltage, I believe it keeps me safe.

So I will try this battery again, and if its totally gone, I will just overcharge it and get a vid of it when it explodes

Hmmm, thats dissapointing news!

I will try this comming tuesday by hooking the lipo up to my car charger. 12volts at 6amps.

Hopefully something will happen.

Falling asleep while charging lipo's seems unsafe to me. I hope you have them in a concrete bunker lol. Somebody once said to me that Lipos are easier to match than nimh, since its 2 or three cells, as opposed to 5-7 nimh's for a matched pack. The rules still apply though, if one cell in a nimh pack goes bad you risk damaging the rest of the good ones, same applies for lipo.

depends on your definition of 'Easy'

I know one well known matcher that tells you that charging lipo packs at 10-14 amps is safe.

True, but odds are reduced when the cell count drops?

I was thinking about going to lipos on my crawler,
I am new to electrics, been a nitro guy but, after
watching that video has got me a little freaked out.
Mind you this is a new Venom so if I go lipo I need
the following
1) lipo battery
2) lipo charger
3) lipo ballancer
4) voltage cut off set at 3 amps per cell.

Also what do you reccommend charging the lipos in
that is fire proof? Maybe some pics would be nice to
see what you guys use to charge in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kurt

i have been thinking about following your method of "balancing" a battery the wa you do. i have a dynamite vision charger and is rated for 3s lipo packs. but after seeing that video it too has me a little scared. i want the power of a 3s battery, 8 cells or even 9 (tekin fx-r) just isn t like running a 3s lipo. if i do buy a charger i will probably get the hyperion dc charger.

let me ask you this, do they sell so kind of product that would plug into the outlets on the charger to balance a pack? like a seperate unit or something
