Default Steering servo looses center repeatedly?

Friends:

Something weird on my Axial AX10 Scorpion build that maybe you all will help me identify.

I run a Spektrum DX3 Tx and a 3100 Rx, and I remove the front servo arm, center the wheels, and hook up the arm. I test the left to right travel without the arm connected and then with the arm connected and all is fine. No trim. After a few minutes of driving the wheels point to the left, and turning all the way right only brings them back to center. (I can't turn full right anymore). I repeat the removal of the arm, re-center everything, test left and right, and drive. A few minutes later the same thing happens. Its almost as if my servo had stripped its arm mount gear. Any ideas?

I imagine if one hits one front wheel it stresses the servo or maybe even strips the gears. Is this common? Maybe I need a stronger geared servo?

Thanks for your comments amigos, -Migs

It certainly sounds like either the spline on the output gear is stripped or the splines within the servo arm are stripped. What kind of servo is it?

If one of the internal gears is stripped, you can usually rotate it 90 degrees and use the teeth on the other half of the gear. If the output gear is stripped, you're out of luck since it has to be oriented a certain way on the output shaft.

Hi AK:

It's a HiTec, and they are good about replacements. Fortunately I have a few others to try some component substitution.

Is bumping a tire a common cause for this type of problem? Does it happen often?

Thanks for your comments! -Migs
