It depends on you servos. I run nothing but hi torque servos so I run a BEC on mine. You will know if it starts glitching. |

I would recomend running a BEC on just about every crawler esc out there. I have 4 Tekin FXR's and run CC bec's with all of them....couldn't be happier |

Voltage also matters. Mine ran great with a 8711 and no BEC on a 2S lipo. I moved to 3S lipo and things went bad! When you increase the input voltage, you decrease the amperage on output for an internal BEC like the FXr. Also if you run a dig, you might also have issues. For the $20 buy a BEC. |

Is there a recommended brand, model ,o rating that folks are using? After reading this I think I may need a BEC. I'm in process of building my first crawler and did not plan on adding a BEC but I think I will need to use one. Any recommendatins? Willy

| Well kind of... but I use my CC BEC to power my steering servo directly....doesn't even go through the reciever (only the servo's signal wire goes to the reciever) Imo, a BEC works much better and is much more trouble-free if you use it to directly power servos (sending the power around the reciever) |

BEC stands for 'battery elimination circuit'. This is left over from the days when all rc cars had a receiver battery and when they were first put into the speedos. On 2s a speedo BEC is pretty decent, but can still be amped out with heavy servos or jammed steering. On 3s a seperate BEC is pretty much required with all 1/10 scale speedos. The new breed of 1/8 BL speedos have switching BEC circuits instead of linear regulators and can be used with up to 6S. We could add a switching BEC to the FXR, but it would more than double the size. Since the BEC is perhaps a more common failure point than the speedo it just makes more sense to have them seperate. They are cheap and easy to replace in a hurry or have a spare. Tekin Prez Last edited by Tekin Prez; 02-04-2009 at 10:38 PM. |
