| Futaba 3pm Dig Switch Mod
So at work today I was messing around with a broken window switch pack off of a 2004 Mercedes C-Class. I took it all apart and looked how the switches worked when I noticed that there are 4 spring loaded 2 position switches on the circuit board. So I whipped out my soldering iron real quick, took one off and hooked my Ohm meter to it to find the switching configuration. When the switch is in its normal state (all the way out) both sets of contacts are open. When the switch is pressed to the first position, one set of contacts close. When the switch is pressed to the second detent, both sets of contacts close. So I pulled apart the case on my 3pm (that I happened to have in my truck) and found out what posts did what on the switching. I soldered a couple wires onto the SW2 switch and the Cond2 switch then ran them to my Mercedes switch (still leaving the existing switched intact and connected) Keep in mind I already have my radio programmed like in THIS thread So now if you press the button down on the switch it activates the SW2, which in my case is rear drive line freewheel. And if you press it all the way down it stays in SW2 and activates the Cond2 switch, which in my case is rear drive line locked. Then when you let off the switch it goes back into normal mode, except for having the Cond2 still applied, but it's not hard to tap the switch (either one, Mercedes switch or Cond2 switch) to turn that off. Now I just need to figure out where to mount the switch at, its right about 10mm in diameter and 13mm long, and the button is about 3mm tall. I WILL HAVE PICS UP SHORTLY! TOM |

Here is a picture of the switch pack I took apart (sorry all of these pics are after the fact) Here is the switch removed from the circuit board. The middle two pins are one switch and the outer pins are for the second detent in the switch. This is where you solder additional wires onto the SW2 switch. This is where you solder additional wires onto the Cond2 switch. I added wires onto the existing switches so they still function like normal if I choose not to use the added on Dig switch. Hope this helps you guys! TOM |
