| Novak Goat!!
Hey guys I just got the Novak Goat brushless Crawler system, and noticed that at slow speeds (up to about 1/4 throttle) the motor randomly jerks, seems like it get a voltage spike, and speed up for a split second! At full speed the system work perfect! I was wondering if this is normal? I tried running more cells through it, and am at the limit now (7 cells) my next step was to gear it down even more so I can run more throttle and move slower maybe that would stop the random jerks!!! I don't know if all brushless systems have this, but I am pretty sure my VXL rustler doesn't do that (but hey who drive thhose slow)!! Well anny imput or ideas would be great!! thanx in advance for any and all help, and input!! |

I had the same issue. 1) Make sure you went thru the calibration 2) Keep your power away from the signal wires 3) Open the dead band to setting 4 or 5 I reduced most of it. I was using a 3PM FM radio, I switch to a spectrum dx3 and it was virtually eliminated. You can also e-mail Charlie Novak, he was very helpful |

K will try on my new chassis, I had the esc and wires right next to my receiver!! wish I had a dx3 or dx2 (sold both to build this thing) I have well over a grand in this crawler now!! but i had it calibrated right, not sure about dead band (what ever that is) but it doesn't do it all the time, and it doesn't do it in reverse at all? I was thinking just flip my trans, and use reverse as forward also!! or would get my weight distribution all out of wack do you think? |

That I beleive is one of the cons with brushless at slow speed. I have a rooster now and it twice as smooth and twice as slow. | |

| I had a rooster, but that doesn't do brushless, and I wanted to go brushless, but yes the rooster was alot smoother, but brushed motors in general seem smoother than brushless!

I run a goat with an Airtronics MX-3 and 7 cell pack and I haven't had any issues with it. Make sure everything is set right and you don't have it set for a LiPo battery with your 7 cell.

THe lipo setting won't make it jerk, that's just a cutoff. The Goat is fairly sensitive to glitchy triggers. One of mine glitches with my old R-1 but works fine with the newer R-1. Same everything (including the module), different transmitter. |

Fudge try adjusting the deadband on the ESC programing. Check the manual on how to adjust. I think this will help. You can download the Goat Crawler Brushless ESC Programming Sheet from Novak website if you don't have it. I had just e-mailed Charlie at the Novak tech service e-mail, but he may not be there anymore. There was a pretty good thread on this site regarding novak. It shouldn't be to hard to find. Good luck.

| ok but a glitchy radio would that make it jerk going slow only in foreward? cause it doesn't do that in reverse!

I ran Two Brushless Goats on my Super with a M8 Fm radio and I had glitching at slow speeds. I was running a 7cell 4200 Sub C battery setup. I put the same two Goats in my 2.2 berg, but I switched to a DX6 radio and went to a 7 cell 2/3a battery. I had no glitching at all. I am now running a brushed setup for my Comp rig. The Goats are fun with all kinds of wheel speed. The only issue I ran into was on steep down hills they sometimes run away. That's why I went back to a brush setup. |

Really? you found that brushed brakes work better? I was told to go brushless cause they take less power, less maintenance, and they have better breaks than brushed!! And so basically what I am getting from you guuy is that running an old fashion radio (LOL) (72 mhz) won't work with the brushless set up, I would have to go 2.4ghz! |

I have 2 goat systems and a og ss crawler system upgraded to a goat, i have been running 2 of them on a fm 40mhz rx/tx system with no problem, the third one is on my cr-01 with a futaba am tx/rx system and i have no glitching, i have also ran this particular cr-01 with 6-7 cell nimh 4.4 packs and 2s lipos and no issues, so it can't be a radio or battery problem only, maybe double check your goats programming, i know it's a pain when you probably have done a bunch of times already, but sometimes even the most experienced people will miss something, also try rewiring the antenna, palcing the esc away from the receiver, maybe even a faulty servo, good luck Edit, the brakes are killer on my goats btw. |

I have 4 goat brushless systems and have ran across the problem you are having. Make sure the lipo cut off is set to off if your not running a lipo. The giltching problem will happen even if you are running a 2.4 radio if it's turned on. Take your time when going through the programing and this should fix the problem. Also make sure the sensor harness is pluged in right.

The goat systems are smooth as silk. You may need a firmware update on yours to work with your radio, as some radios have errant signals and the new firmware smooths it out.
