Default dx6i question

Just got a dx6i, and I want to keep it intact with the left stick non-return, in case I want to expand my horizons later.

Using it that way, I want to use the right stick for throttle, since it is return to center, and since crawling is usually so slow, I don't see too much of an issue with having non return steering..

On the right stick though, how can I get it to go straight into reverse when I move the stick down. ATM, I move it down, and have to let it sit in the middle for just a sec or two.

That isn't a DX6i problem, that is your ESC that is preventing you from going from forward straight into reverse.

Most probably you have to tap the brake or move a bit down, return to center and then move the stick down again. A tamiya teu 101bk ESC I use follows this pattern in order to reverse, thus preventing the car from reversing when in full speed.
