Default Castle Creations Motor

I juat bought a castle creations sidewinder and motor combo...

i was wondering if the motor that came in the combo would have enough torque and wheel speed that a crawler needs. The kv on the motor is 4600. i will be running a 2s lipo for now but will eventually go to a 3 cell.

no, however the 4600 is great for a slash. for a brushless crawler you want something less than 2000kv and probably sensored to help with the cogging (sidewinder doesn't do sensored BL)

You might be able to get away with the 4600 if you ran a axial trans and rockforce axles (super low gearing)

I've got an unsensored 3000kv bl in my 10lb super, running 6 cell stick packs.

Running an Axial trans, stock spur, 14t pinion (I think). Fair torque, decent wheelspeed. The only time it coggs is when battery juice is low. I've broken a few Maxx axles with it. Its not ideal, but its what I had. I personally love the wheelspeed, it suits my driving style much better than the 65t brushed unit that was there before it.

edit: this motor will find its way into my Axial ARTR when it shows up. It'll also be powered by a 3s lipo. I'll let you know how it goes!

I laoned billygoat my 4600 when he had his rockforce (stock gearing, very low) and it was still too fast of a motor. the cogging was terrible and we just couldn't get it to work good.

what would you say the torque would compare to a brushed motor??? would it be around a stock 27 turn or as decent enough as a 55 turn...
i have stock spur and a 12 pinion...

i really would like to have great of both gear and wheelspeed.

Less torque than a 55. Not sure what it would compare to. The only issue I have, and I'm not sure where the problem lies, is that under heavy load the esc will shut down, sometimes at very inopportune times (like in the middle of a slow, steep climb). Its probably doing this to save itself from blowing up, which is a nice feature, but annoying at times.

btw: this is an EasyRun system, and not thier crawler version. Like I said, not the most ideal setup, but its what I had and have grown to like it. At some point I will step up to a CC esc.

I put in my 5700kv in my Axial and a 9T pinion (just to see). crappy on torque but LOTS of wheel speed and it cogged no matter how I programmed the MM, SOO I took it out and put it in my slash....much better.

At low speeds the motor doesn't run smooth and 'cogs'.
