Default motor output bearing?

The mamba max 5700 motor in my slash (motor is a motor right, crawler or go fast) the output shaft has some play in it like the bearing is shot. I tried to take the 3 screws out and can't get that cap off. Anyone have experience with these? Is the motor shot or can I replace a bearing or something?

Which way is the movement, verticle (with the axis of the can), or side to side?

side to side, and its mostly only one axis, like it has play left to right but not up and down as much. In and out seems tight.
