Default Hand wound brushed motor? how long should they last??

so I bought some nice hand wound motors...they blow my integy motors out of the water in every way...but now 3 months later my rear motor is shot..I just rebuilt it with new brushes and a fresh lathe job on the comm...but it still has a dead spot.
I know motors don't last forever...but should I be getting more then 3 moths out of a good hand wound motor?
I don't go mudding with this rig...it has seen two comps with water holes and puddles...but nothing that I would consider excessive...
if they only last 3-4 months then maybe a cheaper motor would be more cost effective route??? thanks for any help you can offer.
