| Sidewinder help
So I went out and got a sidewinder ESC. I was confident I was doing a good thing since so many people are using them. I got it wired up in my Cliff Climber with banebot motors and followed the instructions on calibrating the control and going through the settings to chnge it to 3s lipo and brushed motors. I gave it a quick test and everything seemed ok, I go outside and 10 feet from me everything stops except for some glitching and all the leds flashing. I unplug everything and try it again and the same thing happens. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Thanks. Russ |

I put my bet on that its your radio. If you still have the stock duratrax one even a traxxas tq3 would be an upgrade, i use a modded tq3 on my losi comp crawler and ive never had a problem. (My losi has a sidewinder too.) EDIT: Also make sure your receiver and antenna isnt to close to the esc. |

So I tried it with a 2s lipo and all was good, I thought with the high turn 390 motors and a 3s it would be fine. Is anyone else using a sidewinder with dual motors and a 3s lipo? I don't want to stay with the 2s cause the motors really need the extra voltage.

Get a Castle creation BEC... the sidewinder can and will do some strange things when running 3's using the built in BEC... the internal BEC is just not up to the task of running well on 3's... hell it's marginal on 2's if ya ask me |

I wonder if the same will help me. I'm running a 55t Integy lathe motor powered controlled by a Sidewinder and a 2100 nicd (I know its old school but I'm upgrading soon to nimh or lipo) and when the truck gets beyond 15 feet away it glitches and slams into reverse and then slams forward. Pretty nasty on my drivetrain. When I bring the stock AM radio closer it stops. Not a huge deal for crawling since your pretty close by but it gets frustrating sometimes on trails. Would a castle BEC or new 2.4 ghz radio or both together help? |

I got my BEC installed and all is perfect! I'm not sure you're having the same problem because mine was due to the higher voltage of the 3s lipo. From what I hear the castle internal BEC isn't very good and you should always use an extermal.

If it works fine when you are close its a radio issue. Maybe its a broken antenna wire? I'd upgrade, I always had problems with my old futaba radios and recievers with glitching.

Yeah I guess its a radio issue too. Its funny cuz it only started doing that when I installed the Sidewinder. Something is making radio interference. My WK worked fine; no glitches with the stock HPI esc. I guess I gotta stay within 15 feet of my rig.
