A we don't use nicds anymore. Nimh is what we use. Personally i run 3 cell lipo 2200 mah in my Berg just for the power. Each cell in a lipo is 3.7 volts per cell. and a nimh is 1.2 volts. Lipos don't drop in power like nimh do they have power all the way till you hit the lipo cut off. the only down side is that they are unstable if no used correctly. Make sure you have an ESC with lipo cut off and is set up for the number of cell you are running. 3.0 volts per cell is the cut off.so in my case i run 3 cell and its set to 9 volts. If you do not use an esc without lipo cutoff you will over discharge the pack and the next time you charge it. It will overcharge and most likely explode and start a fire. But in your case i would use Nimh better cause the safe and cheap and very easy to work with. No special charger is needed with a Nimh. But with lipos you need a special lipo charger with a balancer to balance the cell in the lipo so you have equal volts in each cell while charging.

I say use Nimh for now until you understand lipo better. But if you use lipo know the risk.

I would start off with Lipo. The batteries are lighter, smaller and will liven up your crawler nicely! IIRC, that Rooster can only handle 2S lipo....you can probably get good runtimes with a 1500mAh 2S. I run dual 35Ts on my Clod and my 1800mAh 3S lipo will last about an hour.

mah is what gives you the run time, so if you get a 5000mah you can run for a long time, but is gonna cost you more than a 1500mah, so its up to your budget as well.
somebody correct me if i'm wrong as i'm a newbie to electric, but that is my understanding.

think of it like this'
mah is like your fuel tank, more mah, more fuel, more runtime.
2s lipo or 6 cell nimh would be like your engine, 2s would be like a v6 and 3s would be like a v8.
more cells = more power
